To promote EARTH MAN, my first science fiction novel, I’ll be posting a new woman of science fiction every day for the next nine days. EARTH MAN will be released April 1st.

#7 Lisa (Kelly LeBrock)

Oh sweet science. With the gravity curves, the rising temperatures, the chemical changes, evolutionary advances and medical breakthroughs. If you’ve seen Weird Science, you know what it was about. If you haven’t, I’ll explain to you why every man in America needs to praise this film.

Two nerdy boys attempt to create the perfect woman, but she turns out to be more than that. And they do it with a computer. It’s essentially a messed up exploration of puberty and manhood mixed with a bit of Frankenstein mythology. If you grew up in the 80’s, you understand the impact this movie had. If you are too young and you watch the film now, its all going to seem a little quaint. The fact that one of the kids had a computer in his house was odd enough, at that time computers were giant boxes with ugly green screens that only showed numbers and if you were lucky, maybe a two dimensional simulation. If you’ve ever wondered what it was that drove guys like Bill Gates to spend long hours staring at one of those boxes, day after day, programming numbers, watching lights blink, I am about to tell you the true secret of the internet. They all did it for Lisa.

Weird Science is the reason the internet exists, it is not a coincidence that dating sites and porn sites are the top visited places online. An entire generation of boys have been chasing the ultimate dream; building a woman with a computer. Lisa is the reason the internet exists. Sure, Kelly LeBrock was never a major star, she never really did another genre film until the Sorcerer’s Apprentice. But the dream she inspired is still alive, right there in your handheld and tablet. The dream of downloadable sex partners.

“So, what would you little maniacs like to do first?”
